Anti-infection gossip-sharing

In the fight against the new coronary epidemic, there are numerous rumours of anti-infection, which not only mislead the public but may also have a negative impact on the prevention and control of the epidemic. In order to help the community to better understand the truth, the following are some of the most common rumours of anti-infectionism:

Rumor one: Drinking high wine can kill the coronary virus.

Truth: Drinking high alcohol does not kill the coronary virus. While 75 per cent of alcohol is effective in in vitro against the virus, this does not mean that alcohol is used to prevent infection. First, it is very difficult to drink up to 75 per cent of alcohol; second, when alcohol enters the digestive system, it spreads, dilutes, absorbs, metabolises in the gastrointestinal tract and does not have the effect to kill the virus in the body. In addition, overdrinking can cause bodily harm, reduce immunity and increase the risk of infection.

Rumor two: salt water can prevent new crowns.

The truth: salt water mouths do not prevent new coronary virus infections. In January 2020, the Zhongnan Shan team published this statement. While salt water mouths facilitate the cleaning of mouths and throats, they help with larynxitis, new coronary virus intrusions are in the respiratory tract, which cannot be cleaned, and there are no studies available to suggest that salt water has killed new coronary viruses.

Rumor three: garlic, ginger, chili, etc. prevent new coronary virus infection.

The truth: The World Health Organization has made it clear that there is no evidence that foods such as ginger, garlic and pepper prevent new coronary virus infections. Although these foods have some anti-bacterial and inflammatory properties, they are not effective against the new coronary virus. Therefore, there is no need to rely blindly on these foods to prevent infection.

Rumour four: Long-term masking triggers pulmonary knots.

Truth: Long-term masks do not trigger pulmonary knots. The increase in the detection of pulmonary knots is mainly due to more sophisticated methods of testing and more frequent screening, unrelated to the wearing of masks. Lung knots are produced for a variety of reasons, including air pollution, bacterial infections, vascular diseases and inflammatory diseases. If a medical examination reveals pulmonary knots, a more accurate judgement should be made on medical advice.

Rumor five: The mask middle is made of plastic, which leaves small particles inhaled in the lungs.

Truth: Qualified masks do not drop small particles in normal use. Qualified shield cores are smelting sprays, with polypropylene as the primary feedstock for petrochemical products, and high molecular structures, and it is not possible to “degrad” or “release” small particles in normal use. Qualified products are subject to professional testing prior to being listed, and there is no web-based risk. As a result, qualified masks purchased through formal channels can be easily worn.

Rumour six: Ultraviolet lights quickly eliminate the new coronary virus.

Truth: Ultraviolet lamps cannot quickly eliminate the new coronary virus. Common UV sterilisation takes half an hour to function and UV penetration is weak and vulnerable to objects and even dust. There are more items in the household, and if UV lamps are disinfected, they can only kill directly exposed micro-organisms and the effects of disinfection are reduced. At the same time, ultraviolet light can damage skin, mucous membranes and must be protected against the use of UV lamps for extinction. When UV lamps are sterilized, windows need to be ventilated for more than half an hour to avoid long-term, large-scale inhalation of UV-generated ozone.

Rumour seven: Smoking prevents infection.

Truth: Smoking does not prevent infection. On the contrary, smoking reduces physical resistance. When smoking, the hand repeatedly touches the nose and mouth, and the virus may enter the body as a result. In addition, the absence of masks during smoking reduces the protection of oneself. Therefore, do not believe that smoking prevents the infection.

Rumour 8: There’s a Chinese pneumonia formula.

Truth: Do not blindly believe in the so-called Chinese pneumonia formula. The use of Chinese medicine is subject to Chinese medical theory and individual differences and cannot be generalized. Currently, there is no conclusive scientific evidence that a Chinese formulation is effective in preventing new coronavirus infections. Therefore, Chinese drugs should not be used blindly to prevent infection.

Rumour nine: Plague blue root plus fumigation to prevent new pneumonia

Truth: Blue root and vinegar do not prevent new types of pneumonia. Slate root is used for the treatment of hot diseases such as wind and flu and viral flu, with some anti-virus effects, but is not effective for coronary viruses. The concentration of acetic acid in fumigated vinegar is very low and does not have the effect of disinfection. Therefore, there should be no blind reliance on plaster and vinegar to prevent viral infections.

Rumor 10: The N95 mask with the respiratory valve is not protective of the new coronary virus.

Truth: The N95 mask with the breathing valve is protective of the new coronary virus. The air flow of the respiratory valve is one-way and does not affect the protection of the user. However, in the case of persons with suspected symptoms or confirmed cases, it is recommended not to use masks with respiratory valves, as it is not able to completely prevent the virus from spilling out. For the general public, when wearing a mask, it is ensured that it covers the mouth, nose and chin and that the nose and nose clamps are pressed to enhance the protective effect.

In the fight against the new epidemic, we want to maintain a rational and scientific attitude and to believe in rumours and unconfirmed information. Only with the right knowledge and methods can one better protect one ‘ s own health and that of others. It is hoped that the above-mentioned crimes and rumours will help communities to better understand the truth and to combat the epidemic together.
