Diabetes and apple juice: Drink or not?

Apple juice is popular with its sweet taste and abundant nutrients in the forest. However, for diabetics, apple juice becomes a vexing existence, should it be or should it not be?

First of all, let’s find out about the nutrients of apple juice. Apple juice is rich in vitamin C, vitamin K, potassium and some antioxidating substances, which play an important role in maintaining normal physical functioning of the body.

However, natural sugar in apple juice is a key issue for diabetes patients. When apples are squeezed into juice, there is a loss of dietary fibre, which is important for slowing the absorption of carbohydrates. Without the “constraint” of dietary fibres, sugar in apple juice can be absorbed more quickly by the human body, leading to a rapid rise in blood sugar.

So, does this mean that diabetics can never drink apple juice? Not really. If the blood sugar control of diabetes patients is more stable, and if they are able to control the amount and time of drinking, then it is also possible to drink, occasionally, a diluted apple juice. At the same time, the choice to drink apple juice between meals is a small trick that avoids co-locating carbohydrates with regular meals, thus preventing large fluctuations in blood sugar.

In addition, diabetics may consider the choice of low sugar or non-sugar-free apple juice substitutes, which, while retaining part of the apple flavor and nutrients, reduce the sugar content through artificial sweeteners or other technical means, with a relatively small effect on blood sugar. It should be noted, however, that even low or no sugar products cannot be overdrinked, as they may still contain elements that can affect blood sugar.

The relationship between diabetes patients and apple juice is not an absolute “non-black or white”, but can be controlled by reasonable drinking and quantity, while satisfying abdominal appetite without disproportionate impact on blood sugar. The key is for people with diabetes to maintain a cautious diet and strict monitoring of blood sugar so that they can enjoy life while effectively managing diabetes and maintaining their health.
