It is hemangioma only obviously, why does the doctor take biopsy, check pathology even?

Some parents said in a private letter that their baby had hemangioma, and after going to the hospital, the doctor suggested hospitalization.

But just a few days after hospitalization, the doctor suddenly said that he wanted to do a biopsy for the child, because he had learned that hemangioma was not only a benign lesion, but also had the possibility of self-regression, so he did not understand why he wanted to do pathology.

First of all, it must be noted that although infantile hemangioma is often said to be a benign disease, and there is no need for pathological examination of infantile hemangioma, this does not mean that all infants must suffer from benign hemangioma. For example, when the attending physician cannot rule out the possibility of Kaposi’s hemangioendothelioma or angiosarcoma based on the patient’s condition and the existing examination results, a differential diagnosis should be made by pathological examination.

Because the hemangioma clinical signs of this special type of Kaposi hemangioendothelioma may be similar to some types of infantile hemangioma, there may be purple, red and other color spots, papules or plaques, sometimes ulcers, as for hemangiosarcoma, there may be telangiectasia and other symptoms.
